Charles River Analytics, and partners Propel LLC and Armick, were awarded a contract from the US Army to develop Smart Holster Enabling Automatic Device-Tethering for Helo Aircrew (SHEATH).
Rotary wing aircrew must quickly access critical information on electronic devices without sacrificing situational awareness or task efficiency. SHEATH is a wearable electronic device dock for the connected soldier, enabling increased situational awareness and combat effectiveness through rapid and flexible device access. It integrates with wearable ecosystems that charge and sync body-worn devices.
“This project is exciting because the solution requires a truly multi-disciplinary effort, relying on our expertise in human factors, wearable electronics, and ruggedized packaging,” said Michael King, Mechanical Engineer at Charles River Analytics and Principal Investigator for the SHEATH effort.
SHEATH is a physical product that combines ergonomic design, integrated textiles, and rugged electronics packaging. Deployment of the device will benefit the US Army’s rotary craft aircrew and other service members outfitted with body-worn power and data network gear.
