Military training facility managers are tasked with understanding and responding to the long-term effects of contaminant releases. To mitigate disastrous environmental damage to ecosystems, military training facility managers must understand the impacts of common contaminants on the soil and available mitigation options. Current environmental modeling approaches and tools require significant expertise in environmental science. We have designed and developed a decision-support system, CLEANSE, as a workflow tool to:

  • Support facility managers, who are not experts in environmental science or modeling, to understand this critical phenomena
  • Support the application of complex environmental tools for non-expert users
  • Provide decision- and context-specific representatives of breakthrough curves and effects of mitigation strategies
