Senior staff from Charles River Analytics, a developer of intelligent systems solutions, identified issues in human systems at the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) 2015 Human Systems Conference, which took place February 10-11, 2015, at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia.
The theme of this year’s conference was Human Systems: Maintaining Our Physical Edge, Enabling Our Cognitive Edge. Individual tracks focused on the following topics:
- Systems Interface and Cognitive Processing
- Protection, Sustainment and Physical Performance
- Personnel, Training and Leadership Development
- Social, Cultural, and Behavioral Understanding
- Human Systems Integration Metrics
This year’s plenary speakers included Mr. Al Shaffer, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering; Mr. Richard Parker, SES, Director, MC-DID, and Dr. Mica Endsley, Chief Scientist, US Air Force.
Dr. Greg Zacharias, President of Charles River Analytics, and Deputy Chair of the Human Systems Division, moderated the industry panel, Rising Issues in Human Systems. Dr. Jonathan Pfautz, Chief, Strategic S&T at Charles River, was one of the panelists, as well as Dr. Mike Paley, President and CEO, Aptima; Dr. Chris Miller, Chief Scientist, Smart Information Flow Technologies (SIFT); Dr. Kelly Hale, Senior Vice President, Technical Operations, Design Interactive; and Dr. Dylan Schmorrow, Chief Scientist, Soar Technology, Inc.
Dr. Zacharias also participated in the Human Readiness Level panel Linking S&T to Acquisition. The panel was moderated by Brigadier General Pete Palmer, USA (Ret), Director, EDGE® Innovation Network, General Dynamics Mission Systems, and Dr. Kelly Hale, Senior Vice President, Design Interactive, Inc. Other panelists included Dr. Mica Endsley, Chief Scientist, US Air Force; Mr. David Kolbe, Chief Executive Officer, Kolbe Corporation; Mr. Richard Parker, SES, Director, Mission Command Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate (MC-CDIC); and CDR Joseph Cohn, USN, PhD, Deputy Director, Human Performance, Training and BioSystems Directorate, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.
