Charles River Analytics Inc., developer of intelligent systems solutions, proudly recognizes Calvin Leather, Software Engineer, and Dr. Bethany Bracken, Senior Scientist, for their submittal of a winning pitch at the SOFWERX “Hacking the Human Element” hackathon. Hosted by Special Operation Forces and MD5 from December 1-3 in Tampa, FL, the hackathon centered on wearable technologies to enhance operator performance in austere environmental conditions.
At the hackathon, Charles River brought our human-sensing technology expertise to the Squad Fabric Communications team, which also included a small company that creates light/IR-emitting clothing and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) expert. The team developed a pitch around new clothes that track and display information about human physiology, as well as help communicate and coordinate with UAVs. Our team won a $15K prize that they will use to develop the pitch further for follow-up discussions with SOFWERX.
The event drew eight squads, who developed solutions for wearable technology applications. In addition to our top concept, other winning solutions included an on-demand triage system, a tourniquet concept, and an intravenous diagnostic probe.
Charles River congratulates our staff and their team!
