Charles River Analytics Develops Stress and Fatigue Analysis Toolkit to Improve US Army Operational Effectiveness

Charles River Analytics Inc., developer of intelligent systems solutions, will build a toolkit for the US Army to help analyze fatigue and other stressors, which can affect mission outcomes. With the DREEMS toolkit, the US Army can significantly improve its understanding of the effect of fatigue on Small Soldier Unit Survivability and operational effectiveness.

Charles River is leading a team on the Dynamic Representation for Evaluating the Effect of Moderators and Stress on Performance (DREEMS) effort, which includes Professor Frank Ritter of Pennsylvania State University, Professor Christopher Dancy of Bucknell University, and Dr. Victor Middleton, who has been contracting with the US Army on Solder System issues for more than 30 years.

“The growing complexity of modern warfare requires new ways to maintain Soldier alertness and health on the battlefield,” explained Dr. Peter Weyhrauch, Vice President, Charles River Human Effectiveness Division. “The military is now looking to our DREEMS toolkit to help ensure that troops remain alert by deeply understanding the causes of fatigue and its effect on both cognitive and physical performance.”

The DREEMS toolkit is Charles River’s latest effort in human behavior and decision modeling. Other efforts include a system to design and build complex intelligent systemsan ontology-based analysis toolkitrole and task-tailored interfaces for mission planning, and a toolkit to model individual and team cognitive state and recommend optimization strategies.
