Charles River Analytics Selected for Integrated Space Situational Awareness Prototype Developer Project

Charles River Analytics, a developer of cutting-edge intelligent technologies for data fusion and situation awareness, was awarded a two-year subcontract from Lockheed Martin to work on the Integrated Space Situational Awareness (ISSA) Prototype Developer (IPD) project. The IPD team will develop and deliver software for the Space and Missile Systems Center to support US Air Force space operations and intelligence processing.

Charles River was one of four companies selected to work with Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Services Mission (IS&GS) & Combat Support Solutions Space C2 Division, along with Northrop Grumman, AGI, and Data Fusion and Neural Networks. The two-year subcontract, with options, is valued at over $1.8 million.

Charles River is providing cognitive engineering services to support the design of the Space Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (SIPB) component of the IPD effort. Charles River brings to the IPD program extensive experience in space situation awareness, including design and prototyping of an Agent-based Satellite Attack Analysis System (ASAAS) for threat modeling, participation in the Situation Awareness Fusion-Integrated Research Environment (SAFIRE) program, which is run by the Space Vehicles Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory, and long-term participation in programs preceding SAFIRE.

“The IPD program is an exciting opportunity to participate in prototyping advanced space situation awareness systems that support both the protection and management of America’s space resources,” said Joe Gorman, Principal Software Engineer at Charles River. “We are very pleased to have this opportunity to contribute our data fusion and cognitive engineering expertise to the IPD team led by Lockheed Martin.”

Dr. Greg Zacharias, President of Charles River said, “Not only are we delighted to be recognized for our contributions over the past several years in providing a capability for enhanced Space Situational Awareness (SSA) in the Air Force Joint Space Operations Center, but we are particularly excited to be able to team with our partners at Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, AGI, and Data Fusion and Neural Networks, to bring this needed capability closer to operational reality. We look forward to a productive IPD program, providing a demonstrated benefit of improved SSA for America’s space warfighters.”
