Mindfulness training teaches us to focus on the present moment and minimize distraction from competing thoughts and memories. This training improves working memory and increases density in the hippocampus (the part of the brain that links memory, learning, and emotion). In this study, Dr. Seth Elkin-Frankston of Charles River Analytics and other researchers examined whether mindfulness training reduces proactive interference in working memory and if this reduction is associated with changes in hippocampal volume.
