Teamwork is an important factor in reducing medical errors and increasing clinical efficiency. Medical Team Training (MTT) programs are often implemented in clinician training to develop and quantify teamwork skills, such as communication, error reduction, and knowledge, but many of the current resources face difficulties in scheduling, development time, and cost. The application of game-based virtual simulations, a tool gaining popularity in many aspects of healthcare, may provide an alternative to classic simulations that overcomes many of the aforementioned barriers. Summarizing characteristics of successfully implemented virtual MTTs would provide an informative platform for future developments in this growing field.  Our objective was to evaluate current research to identify characteristics of MTTs that contribute to the cost-effectiveness, adaptability, and engagement of MTT simulations.
