Charles River Analytics deemed AWARDABLE on Tradewinds

Passive sensing and perception

The Awarion® Autonomous Lookout System uses AI and computer vision to detect, classify, localize, and track obstacles 24 hours per day with infrared and visible light sensors. Our advanced AI-powered smart camera and software system is designed to enhance situational awareness and decision-making for crewed, uncrewed, and autonomous vessels through a map-based user interface that helps crew analyze video data faster and respond more efficiently.

Awarion provides passive sensing. Contemporary autonomous navigation approaches rely on active sensing modalities such as lidar, radar, and acoustics to gather observations of their environment. These modalities, however, can reveal both the vehicle’s presence and capabilities to adversaries. Awarion enables safe and inconspicuous navigation by transfer vessels (both crewed and uncrewed systems). Passive detections will inform safer navigation and situational awareness to both human operators and autonomous algorithms.

Maritime situational awareness

Maritime vessels need an accurate operational picture to navigate and ensure safety. Awarion complements and supports human lookouts and marine radar systems to support both US forces and marine conservation efforts. Awarion supports crewmembers in accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations by addressing the topside limitations of radar- and acoustic-based systems, detecting and reporting on a variety of hazards and obstacles including whales, ships, sailing vessels, fishing buoys, navigational markers, and other equipment.

Camera agnostic

With Awarion, you can BYOC (bring your own camera).

Awarion is camera agnostic, so there is no need to buy new hardware if you’ve already invested in a set of cameras. Or we can offer monthly leasing for hardware along with your software package.

Detecting what radar can’t see and acoustics can’t hear

To help mitigate vessel strikes and support marine life conservation, Awarion uses electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) methods, which provide greater detail and resolution than radar.

Using EO/IR, Awarion detects what radar can’t—like a whale’s blow or surfacing—and classifies objects in real time. Since whales don’t produce sounds detectable by passive acoustics, these visual capabilities are critical.

Awarion technologies reduce or eliminate the need for onboard protected species observers (PSOs), allowing work to continue in darkness, fog, and other adverse conditions—observers can perform their work remotely in a fraction of the time.
